Sandbox

Our presence in the software capital of the world has influenced our modus of operandi in a lot of  ways. Our platform for Sandbox is aptly named as it suggests that  platform is our testing environment before we go live with our shows in production.

Sandbox Play Reading includes famous old plays, new scripts as well as plays written by local writers among CalAA Volunteers. Directors for the reading generally select actors for reading individual character parts. After each reading, there is a spirited discussion where the attendees discuss and critique the play.

As we consistently do our stage productions at regular intervals, we realized that apart from the planned productions we were not seeing much of action in rest of the year. To fill in that caveat we  started the monthly play reading activity where we will read all types of plays, typically those which can not be performed due to logistics limitations, non-contemporary content as well as classics in Indian theater. This includes good plays from any source, genre, and language. This has also become a platform to source potential scripts as well as performers for presentation on our stage productions.

We also live telecast these play reading sessions over zoom meetings so  that we can involve more number of audience and performers in our readings.Blessed with celebrity presence such as Dilip Prabhavalkar, Uday Sabnis and many more, we have read 100+ scripts consistently since 2017. Due to zoom as a medium audience can enjoy these plays from the comfort of their home as a fresh  start to their weekends. Not only the artists from different states of US have performed with us, but also we have good participations from India and Bangkok. If you want to attend and/or participate in our monthly play reading series do subscribe us at – http://eepurl.com/igSfuz Or write  to sandbox@calaa.org
